German-Japanese expert workshop and excursions to projects in Germany on waste heat utilization
Heat is required in many industries – from steel production to food processing. A high proportion of the energy is often lost as unused waste heat at different temperature levels. There is a large untapped potential for waste heat utilization in Japan and Germany, not only in the industry but also in other areas such as data centers or municipal sewage systems. If this waste heat is made usable, a great deal of energy can be saved and used in the production itself or for district heating, swimming pools, or greenhouses.
In a German-Japanese Workshop in Essen and two days of excursions to innovative waste heat utilization projects in the Rhine-Ruhr area and Lower Saxony, interested experts from Japanese industry (technology suppliers as well as users), academia or administration could
- exchange information on technologies and projects for the utilization of industrial waste heat (technological and systemic) in selected areas in Japan and Germany.
- get a first-hand impression of innovative technologies and concepts for waste heat utilization in Germany through site visits
- identify cooperation and business opportunities and initiate cooperation projects
The Workshop and excursion were organized by ECOS in cooperation with adelphi and NEDO within the framework of the German-Japanese Energy Partnership, and supported by JETRO.
